Caltavuturo



Small and ancient village near Palermo, in the wonderful Madonie Park, dominated by Mount "Rocca di Sciara".

According to many scholars, the city's name derives from the Arabic Qal'at Abi l-Thawr (stronghold of Abu Thawr); according to others it comes from the Arabic word "kala" (fortress) and the Sicilian "vuturu" (vulture), rapacious acora present today in the Madonie

Caltavuturo was the scene in January 1893 of the violent clashes between the beams Sicilian, made of hundreds of peasants who had occupied some lands, and soldiers and police of the national government, thirteen protesters were killed during clashes.

To see the remains of the Castle of Terravecchia, and the churches of the twelfth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
