MADONIE PARK IN PALERMO
The Madonie Park is a planned regional nature park in 1981 (Sicilian regional law No. 98) and established on 9 November 1989; includes fifteen municipalities of the metropolitan city of Palermo in Sicily (Caltavuturo, Castelbuono, Castellana Sicula, Cefalù, Collesano, Geraci Siculo, Gratteri, Isnello, Petralia Soprana, Petralia Sottana, Polizzi Generosa, Pollina, San Mauro Castelverde, Scillato and Sclafani Bagni).
Includes the Madonie mountain range, located on the northern coast of Sicily, between the rivers Himera and Pollina.Il Park is home to more than half of the Sicilian plant species, and in particular most of those present only in Sicily (as the Abies nebrodensis endangered, in Walloon "Madonna degli Angeli).
For the wildlife there are over half of the species of birds, all species of mammals and more than half of the species of invertebrates. Noteworthy are also the geological highlights. The geology of the Madonie is at the center of studies and research since the 1960s as they embark.
Due to the geological interest of Madonie mountain range since 2003 the Madonie Park has joined the network European Geopark in geological parks comprising more than twenty and not wiki source, Europeans.
