The Cathedral of Mary Most Holy Of Victories Piazza Armerina

The Cathedral of Our Lady Of Victories of Piazza Armerina is the cathedral of the diocese of Piazza Armerina, in Sicily and is dedicated to Our Lady of Victories.

The cathedral, dominated by its high dome visible from across the city, was started to build in 1604 and completed in 1719 by architect Orazio Torriani.

The bell tower, 40 meters high, in Catalan late Gothic style, dates from the fifteenth century and is one of an earlier church, which was erected in place of the current cathedral.

The portal of the eighteenth century, has elements of Sicilian Baroque style.

The interior of the cathedral is dominated by the central dome.

It contains a cross painted on both sides, which shows the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ, and a baptistery Antonello Gagini.

True treasure of the cathedral is the main altar, with the silver of Our Lady of Victories icon.
