Piazza Armerina
From 1689 until 1817 is the seat of the Fourth University of the Kingdom.
From 1817 he was also home to a bishopric with a large diocese, while he obtained the title of Armerina in 1863.
Lost his hegemony in the territory was united to the Caltanissetta Valley and from 1926 passed to Enna Province.
In 2015 Piazza Armerina, with a popular referendum and two municipal council votes, decides to join the Metropolitan City of Catania but the draft law prepared by the regional government for the consequent territorial modification (ex Article 44 of LR No. 15 / 2015) has not been approved by ARS.
