Aidone Morgantina

Aidone (Aidungh or Dadungh in the local gallo-italic dialect, Aiduni or Aidō in Sicilian) is a comune (municipality) in the province of Enna in Sicily.

It is located in one of the most interesting cultural and natural areas of central Sicily: in its territory there is the important Sicilian-Greek-Hellenistic site of Morgantina, the Pietratagliata Castle of the Arab-Norman era, and a few kilometers from the Villa Roman of Piazza Armerina, a UNESCO site.
The commune has a rich territory of natural and artificial forests occupying the northwestern part, and of remarkable sites of naturalistic importance: with Piazza Armerina and Enna it shares the Parco della Ronza.
On the border with the province of Catania there is the artificial reservoir of Lake Ogliastro, a wetland of naturalistic interest.

There is a Northern dialect that is part of the Gallo-Italic dialect group of Sicily.
